More On Why Health Care Reform Matters

5 votes. That’s the narrow margin that the House health care bill passed. And very surprisingly – there was a Republican vote in favor.

It’s still too soon to tell what the final product will be, but for young adults the outcome looks like:

  • individual mandate
  • and extension of the age on which they can remain on parents’ insurance

For an exhaustive analysis of the situation that may tell you more than you ever want to know, read my article here.

This American Life produced two amazing shows covering the health care reform from angles that have not been thoroughly analyzed by most other media.

I’m not sure I can believe Representative Cao’s claims that he made a vote of conscience on the health care bill. Apparently his vote was a shoe-in–that is, one that was cast after the bill already had enough votes to pass (218)–and he is also a Republican representing a heavily Democratic-leaning district who was apparently almost recalled after voting against the Stimulus bill. Regardless, at least he knows who has the real power in the system and is voting the way his constituents want him to.
